One great way to differentiate is to innovate. You do not HAVE to innovate to differentiate of course, but innovation definitely leads to differentiation. There is a perception that in order to innovate one must receive a flash of inspiration. A blindingly brilliant epiphany-like moment.
Sometimes that happens. More often than not innovation is a deliberate process of breaking down and reinventing, or rather, it is about re-imagining.
The process is itself relatively straightforward, though not necessarily easy to do in a services firm. There are 4 key parts to one big question – and you need to consider each part of the question. Challenge the existing thinking and consider possibilities. All of the possibilities for all of the parts of the big question will inevitably lead to an entirely different perspective on how something could be done.
